Braised Red Cabbage and Apples Recipe

A great side dish for the whole family

1 head red cabbage, grated
5 cooking apples; peeled, cored, sliced
240ml red wine vinegar
100g brown sugar
90ml dry red wine
3 tablespoons butter
2.5 teaspoon flour
2 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoon salt

Recipe Instructions

Cook the cabbage.
Steam the cabbage until it is tender. Drain well and add the apples with the cabbage and set aside.

Make the sauce.
Melt the butter in a large saucepan and add the flour. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and add the remaining ingredients. Stir continuously until the sauce begins to thicken. Add the cabbage and the apples and toss until mixed. Continue to cook for another 10 minutes.
